For Immediate Release PowerSteering's On-Demand Software Assists Katrina Relief Effort March 1, 2006 In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, PowerSteering Software is aiding the recovery effort by providing free use of its project tracking software to the Coastal Family Health Center, a Biloxi-based community health center serving more than 30,000 Mississippi residents. Coastal provides medical, dental, and mental health care to communities along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, with a focus on meeting the needs of people with limited resources. When Katrina struck in August, 2005, the storm inflicted severe damage on all nine of Coastal's clinic locations. At many sites, all medical and office equipment was completely destroyed. For the past several months, Coastal has been working closely with Hands On USA, a national volunteer organization, to restore health services to the area. Project management has been a major challenge from day one. To say the least, the relief effort has a lot of moving parts, with thousands of tasks to be accomplished and ever-changing priorities to be juggled. This is where PowerSteering helps out. Despite limited access to equipment, teams of Coastal employees and Hands On volunteers are able to work in the field and get the project information they need, where and when they need it. The software allows Coastal to keep track of what needs to be done when, what each individual is responsible for, and where projects may have gone off course.
